The researchers wanted to find markers in the blood that could reveal new risk factors for heart disease. For this, blood samples of 1,162 patients were analyzed. 4PY (4PY-pyrophosphate) was detected in some blood samples. It is a substance that is produced only when there is an excess of niacin.

They found that people with 4PY in their blood were less likely to have a heart attack, stroke, or other adverse cardiovascular event. People who consume large amounts of alcohol may develop a niacin or vitamin B3 deficiency.

Niacin or vitamin B is the recommended dose

According to research in the Journal on Vitamins, the recommended amount of niacin for adults is 14-18 mg/day. High doses of niacin (1,500–2,000 mg/day) may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke High doses of niacin (50 mg or more) may cause side effects.

Niacin flush is also a side effect. It causes burning, tingling and red skin on the face and chest. Taking aspirin 30 minutes before taking niacin can help reduce symptoms.
