They also started out black and I gave them a makeover to make them look lighter and more feminine against the mural wall and pink cabinets.

I found these sconces that are a very close match to the pendant lights on Amazon. You can find them herehere’s how they looked before the makeover…

These scans are black on the outside and gold on the inside. But gold is dark antique gold. I wanted them to be the light, bright gold of the gold leaf I used on the other lights. So I used the same products I used on the other lights to add gold leaf to the shadows. You can see the difference it makes here…

The pendant lights have a raised lip around the outer bottom edge of the shades. They are very easy to tape and gold leaf. These shades are slightly different. They have this rolled lip on the bottom and taping these on is a pain. I had to use small pieces of tape so I could get each piece behind that rolled lip. This is the hardest part of the project, but it’s not difficult. It’s just a pain.

But after I taped that lower lip, I added more adhesive and gold leaves to highlight that part as well. It seemed like a natural ending point for Gold Leaf. Then to match the sconces as closely as possible to the pendant lights, I chose an end point for gold leaf at the top that matched the pendants as closely as possible. And with everything gold leafed and clear coated, here’s how it’s done…

They haven’t actually been installed yet and I haven’t even gold plated the little nuts that hold them on the cabinets. I need to remove the sconces to paint the window trim and add a little trim around the corners. So I’ll wait until everything is done, and then I’ll actually install the lights. Once they are actually hooked up and installed, I gold leaf the little white nuts that hold them in the bracket.

But even if they don’t work yet, at least they’re pretty to look at. And I needed a quick win yesterday, so this was a fun project to check off my list.

I’m really happy with how they turned out. And while they don’t exactly match the pendants in shape, I think they’re close enough to look like they were bought together as a set.

And I love gold. You know how I love me some gold leaf! I could gold leaf all things and be happy sitting in my gold leafed house and shining and shining. So any time I can add a little gold leaf to anything I’m excited. Plus, gold leafing is a fun project for me. I feel so relaxed and content.
