Our next stop on our Italy adventure is Rome! We left Sorrento and headed north to Rome, a really interesting place, stopping at a Catholic monastery. Monte Casino, I am not Catholic, but I can appreciate the historical significance and beauty of an Italian monastery. Monte Cassino on top of the mountain overlooks the town of Cassino and is famous in Italian history as a famous battle site of World War II. The monastery went through many natural calamities and was rebuilt several times and in 1944 there was a major bombardment during the war, leaving most of it in ruins. The Allies mistakenly believed the abbey was inhabited by Germans, so it was bombed and the Italian government rebuilt the monastery a decade later.

The scenery on the mountain is very beautiful.

A tour guide accompanied us through the monastery, telling us about the history and significance of what we were seeing and it was very interesting.

Not to mention beautiful! Architecture in Italy is a sight to behold.

Beautiful garden area outside the premises.

I can’t get over all the marble all over Italy, it’s truly a work of art. The colors and patterns are amazing.

I don’t remember all the details to share with you, but the trip was pretty cool.

I remember that these were fragments found after the bombings, which were salvaged and are now on display.

We certainly enjoyed the scenery.

The famous bronze doors from 1066 have been restored and restored. They are beautiful!

Inside the Abbey is amazing! It was truly a work of art to see the magnificence that greeted us within the doors.

Awestruck with beauty throughout.

Almost too much to take at once.

Of course, we had to take some pictures of ourselves there too.

Again, all marble!

Amazed and amazed by the beauty!

I have never seen anything so majestic.

I couldn’t get the details everywhere like this post on the stairs. An absolute work of art!

And another one.

The ceiling is completely mosaic. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the tiny pieces that made up this beautiful creation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stop at Monte Cassino.

If I remember, this statue is a recovered original.

Oh the views!

We made our way down the mountain and it was time for lunch. Lunch was fun today!

We stopped at a roadside grill called Autogrill and they had lots of panini sandwiches as well as lots of other fresh things to eat. This panini is delicious with Italian soda. Mark was responsible for the peanut M&Ms. I hope you enjoy the wonderful Monte Casino. It’s a treat to watch and deserves its own post!

I still want you to join us on our Italian adventure next year in April 2025 to Florence, Tuscany and the Italian Riviera. If you haven’t seen that post, please check it out. We’re signing people up now and I’ve already signed up a lot of people. We want you to join us!
