I may have mentioned a long time ago that we finally have bathroom #3 to remodel and we are finally getting around to that project. We started here with that bathroom, but we added a new countertop and faucets 4 years ago when we renovated our master bathroom so I couldn’t find a full front picture. This is a project we’ve wanted to finish since we finished the master, we just couldn’t pull the trigger and figure everything out until now. We hired a tile setter to demo the old tile and the old one piece tub, and then we got started. Also a note, nothing in this bathroom is sponsored, everything is paid for by us.
We went on our trip to Italy and had an idea of what we were going to do, so we went to Floor and Decor and made some choices on flooring. We ended up with our original choice and went with another, and it became a matter of pulling all the elements together to make the bathroom look the way we envisioned it.
This bathroom is between the man cave and my office/playroom space and Mark has always had the idea of turning it into an art deco style bathroom. Something 1920s or 30s was in the plan and I love vintage, so I totally used that look. As you can see above, we have already installed a new quartz countertop and that was about 4 years ago and we added black faucets later. You can also see the drywall damage that happened when the old countertops came off. We have been living like this for four years.
We didn’t have a complete plan at the time for what we wanted to do, but it was a start. We still love that quartz. It was originally intended for the master bathroom, but a corner broke during the fabrication process so it didn’t take long to work on the master bath, but it’s perfect for this bathroom so we installed it here, waiting for one day when we go through this renovation. That day has come!
We could have done plain black and white tiles, but we elevated it a bit and chose marble mosaic for the floor and black marble baseboards. Floor & Decor was very helpful in pulling all the pieces together and it was touch and go when everything would arrive for our start date on this project. We lined up the tile guy the first week of May and still hadn’t acquired all the tiles, so that was a little nerve wracking. We didn’t want him to start and have to stop because we didn’t have material, but luckily it was in time!
As you can see, this bathroom is builder beige, just like the rest of the house. Our house is now 18 years old and everything is very clean and well maintained, but a bit boring. So one space at a time, we completely transformed our home into something we love and enjoy. This bathroom is unique and different from the other 2, but equally beautiful.
Mark really rallied to get rid of the one piece tub. I wasn’t completely convinced at first, it added to the cost of the project, but we went ahead with that plan and got rid of it and added back a simple tub to tile around. So it’s all before pics and I’ll show you progress pics along with the plan you have.
Here’s our plan!
I put this moodboard together using Canva and it gives a good vision of what we’re going for. We’re almost there now and putting all the finishing touches on this fun vintage bathroom. At first I considered painting the vanity like I did in the master bath reno, but after seeing it with the wallpaper we chose, I decided to keep that warm wood tone there. I am keeping it as the wood makes the space very cozy and warm. We are changing all the knobs on the vanity. FYI, we are adding wallpaper to the vanity room and painting over the tile in the tub area. Right now, I’m leaning towards a deep green/gray retreat for the tub area. I also considered naval, but think green is more fun. All of our doors are oyster bay so I plan to keep that in there as well.
As you can also see, we have chosen beautifully Wallpaper with an Art Deco vibe From Escape to Chateau Show, they have their own store online. We were watching that show at the time and looked online and found it. We love it! We are doing a mix of gold and black fixtures as you can see with the lighting and mirrors. We found this mosaic marble floor at Floor & Decor and love it too. It’s a beautiful mix of warm and cool tones and looks great with the vanity. Black marble baseboards set off the chairrail and accents of black around the tub area. We added marble pencil tile for accent and love. The tile setter did a great job of figuring it all out. I’ll share his info if you’re interested when I share the final pictures. He was very attuned to what we wanted and asked a lot of questions as we went.
Here’s the marble from Floor & Decor.
And here it is in our bathroom after installation and before grouting. Look at all those beautiful warm and cool tones there, it’s a beautiful mix!
It looks great down to the tub area and he really did a nice job on the wall tile and that border.
We had drywall damage that needed to be repaired, so a pro would need to come in and fix it, but that would be costly. It was above Mark’s pay grade and he didn’t want to try to fix it with all the bumps, ripples and bumps.
Mark found this really cool recessed toilet paper holder and I love it too. It’s a great mix with our other black and gold items.
A look at grout, marble baseboards and tile.
We were a little nervous about finding the right subway tile to go with the floors and countertop. The countertop is warm with a vanilla base and gray veins. So an all-white subway tile wouldn’t look that great with it, so after choosing this marble floor that has warm and cool tones, we looked for a subway tile that would blend in and eventually found it in Oyster for the walls as well. Floor & Decor. I love how it all came together and I can’t wait to finish everything clean and in place. This project did not come cheap at all. We picked out some nice marble and tile, and besides renting the tiling, those were the 2 biggest expenses, but I’ll also share a breakdown of everything when I do the final pictures. But we think we get a lot of bang for the buck! This is not a super high end renovation.
We are still working on it this week and hope to finish soon. Mark is hanging the crown molding and I’m hanging the wallpaper, and then all the finishing touches will be done. We found a hinged 1/2 glass shower door instead of a shower curtain. So wait for the ending, I will share it as soon as possible.
Next week, I was invited to Williamsburg, VA for a trip they hosted, so Mark and I will be heading there soon. We have never seen and are looking forward to seeing this historic part of our country for the first time. Of course, I’ll share it here on the blog too! Celebrate Memorial Day weekend and let’s all remember the meaning behind this holiday.
